PSYCHOTHERAPY & COUNSELLING

Many people enter therapy because of a sense of being unhappy or stuck, often despite having successful careers and intimate relationships. Maybe you feel dissatisfied with life or experience a lack of direction and don't know how to move forward. Perhaps you feel distressed, anxious or low about yourself and do not understand why you feel the way you do. You might be experiencing mood swings or feelings that seem to be disproportionate to the situation at hand. Or you might be battling with a relentless inner critic that questions your every thought and action.

Whether you're facing current challenges or wanting to address long-standing patterns and learned behaviours, we can work together to explore, understand, and bring about positive change.

Psychotherapy and counselling can help with:

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Body image problems

  • Poor self-esteem

  • Bereavement and loss

  • Childhood abuse and neglect

MY APPROACH

My approach to psychotherapy and counselling is integrative, bringing together elements of humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural and systemic theories. Having trained in different modalities means I am able to adapt how I work to the unique needs of each individual. I prioritise building a safe and trusting relationship with all my clients, where they are able to explore and process their feelings and experiences. Psychodynamic thinking informs my understanding of how patterns learnt in childhood can lead to relationship difficulties in adulthood. Gaining insight into these patterns can lead to change. Drawing on cognitive behavioural approaches, I help clients examine the interaction between their cognitive processes, feelings and behaviours so that they can develop better coping skills.  I incorporate tools and techniques into my work to help clients notice, review and challenge thoughts, feelings and behaviours that take them away from the life they want. Where useful, I integrate the use of mapping and constellation work to illuminate hidden relational dynamics and evoke awareness to promote sustainable change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During the initial session we will explore what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to achieve from it. If we agree that further sessions may be helpful, we will plan how to proceed including session times, length, frequency and duration. I offer both short term, time limited counselling and long-term open-ended psychotherapy. Sessions take place weekly at a regular time and last 60 minutes. It may be helpful to attend for 6 weekly sessions, after which we can review the process and negotiate further sessions as appropriate.

ONLINE THERAPY

I currently work exclusively online using Zoom. Many people choose online therapy as a flexible alternative to in-person sessions. Research shows that online and face to face counselling and psychotherapy have equivalent outcomes. However, there can be differences in how people experience online therapy. I am experienced in working in both ways and will be able to advise if I think working online together is not appropriate.

WHERE TO BEGIN?

To begin with, we will schedule an assessment session which will be an opportunity for us to meet, clarify your goals and agree on how we will work together. Initial sessions can be really important to the whole process of therapy. Research shows that the single most important factor in positive outcomes in psychotherapy and counselling is the quality of the relationship between client and therapist so it is imperative to ensure the right ‘fit’.

FEES

£90 per session. Fees can either be paid in advance by purchasing a block of sessions. Or, if we decide to work together in an open-ended way, I will be happy to invoice you at the end of each month. Please ensure you have read and understood the terms here.
